260326 BWF Launches Merchandise to Strengthen Women’s Visibility and Unity in Bougainville.
The Bougainville Women’s Federation (BWF) marked a significant milestone on Monday 23rd March 2026 with the successful soft launch of its official merchandise, symbolizing unity, identity, and empowerment for women across the region.
The event featured the formal handover of merchandise products by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), highlighting a strong and ongoing partnership in support of women’s development initiatives in Bougainville.
The merchandise, developed with support from the Abt Bougainville Partnership, is aimed at strengthening the visibility and branding of BWF, while also supporting women’s groups through registration and engagement activities.
Speaking during the launch, the BWF Vice President Hellen Siumana expressed heartfelt appreciation to both DFAT and the Abt Bougainville Partnership for their continued support. “Your partnership continues to empower women across Bougainville and strengthen our collective journey forward,” she said. “These merchandise items represent who we are, strong, united, and committed to building a better future for our communities.”
She emphasized that the initiative goes beyond branding, carrying a deeper meaning for women throughout Bougainville.
“When we wear them, we carry our message of leadership, resilience, and peacebuilding,” she said. “This is more than just clothing or products — it is our identity. It is our voice. It is our visibility.”
On the same note, DFAT Assistant Program Manager Joanita Lesi, upon handing over the merchandise, said Australia is proud to support the Bougainville Women’s Federation. She highlighted that the partnership is focused on strengthening women’s voices and leadership across Bougainville—from the community level through to regional decision-making spaces.
She concluded by noting that the handover of the merchandise formally acknowledges DFAT’s partnership with BWF and reflects a shared commitment to strengthening women’s leadership, representation, and collective voices across Bougainville.
The soft launch, small but significant was attended by DFAT, BWF and Abt Bougainville Partnership representatives.

As Bougainville continues its journey toward greater self-determination and development, initiatives like this reinforce the vital role women play in shaping peaceful, inclusive, and resilient communities.
